Ahnlab Windows 10
Just for the record, I love V3, it's a really good game, with strong cast, game, story, and everything. It's on par with DR2.
Although the motives could stand to have been handled a bit better with this game.
The first two game's motives were very straight forward on what they wanted to do, money, secrets, starvation. The motives were very clear at what they wanted to present and when the killer was found, why they killed would become very clear when they say how the motive affected them.
V3 kind of fails at this. (Kind of, 1 or 2 motives were pretty good, but I'll cover those.) So here is my opinion about each motive and how it was handled.
Motive 1: First Blood Perk and The Time Limit
This is one of the motive that I thought was actually pretty good. The time limit was a good way to put pressure on Kaede and Tsumugi to both commit murder, while the first blood perk was interesting in that it worked against the killer which was a very nice twist on things, although there is kind of spiral on it.
Motive 2: Swapped Motive Videos
This motive is pretty engaging when playing for the first time. They take DR1's concept and twist and have characters receive the the wrong motive. The thing that's kind of issue is that Kirumi receives her own motive, it kind of makes me question why Kirumi needed to receive her own motive for this. If the point was for the wrong people to get the wrong motive (story wise, I know this was just the Monokubs messing up/ TDR targeting Kirumi) It works with the fact that Ryoma ends up with Maki's motive and she gets Ryoma's which is pretty interesting, but I still don't know why Kirumi needed her own motive and not only that but why it had to have flashback light technology just to force her into a murder mindset. I don't know why, but this motive just kind of irks me on the way it was presented.
Motive 3: The Necronomicon
8 Divided By 0
I think everyone on this sub agrees that this was the worse thing that they handled. The present a motive that allows to bring back someone dead, it's never used, and the killer only killed because of necrocest with his sister. The only thing it adds to the case is the fact that it's what leads Angie to being killed, but that was up to chance, she could've just gone to another empty room for a candle and everything would've been fine. It's more annoying that they never elaborate on the motive. It was pretty disappointing.
Motive 4: The Key Card and The Truth of the Outside World
Now the truth of the outside world part of this motive was handled really well, my issues come from the key card. They present this as the motive, Kokichi takes it, and they never explain what is was for. There have been theories that Kokchi opened the door to the 'outside world' and figured the truth out, but it really doesn't help that the game doesn't give good hints to this. The fact it doesn't lead to the Library door (which is the only place we are aware a key card reader) The idea that Kokichi brute forced his way through the Death Road of Despair by himself and made it to the end and the fact that the door doesn't actually need a key card as shown in Chapter 5 just raises more questions on where the key card was supposed to go. (Of course if anyone has any evidence to counter this, feel free)
Motive 5: Ending the Killing Game

I think it's a great motive. Nothing wrong here. In what seemed like a malicious murder, turned into Kokichi attempting to end the killing game. Although I don't know if this should be mentioned since Chapter 5 doesn't have a presented motive, the killing just kind of happens and the motive is supposed to be one of the things figured out in the trial like DR1 and DR2 did it, so nothing different here.
So yeah, there's my rant 2/5 (or 1/4) of the motives were good. Which isn't really good. Although V3 is a very good game overall, it really needed to fix it's motives. I know there were trying to go for a game that tries to surprise you by turning the motives on their head on what they are and how the killer is motivated by them, V3 misses the mark by a long shot compared to the first 2 games.

Feel free to tell me your own opinions on the motives and if you feel they were good or bad. If you have counters to any of my points, go right ahead. I'd like to hear if I was wrong about one of the one of the motives and if it was actually handled better than I thought.
